Less than two years later, Cherie Colyer has done it again!
The release of her second book, Hold Tight, comes at the perfect time. As winter s-l-o-w-l-y comes to an end (at least here in Chicago!), fans of this series are eagerly grabbing at anything in which to warm up to, and Hold Tight is one HOT commodity! I had the pleasure of interviewing Cherie once again and got a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of her new release as well as what is in store for fans in the near future!
Katie Sparks: Congratulations on Hold Tight, the second novel in your Embrace series! Can you tell us a little about what this sequel is about?
Cherie Colyer: Thanks! Madison is learning to control the Powers, and she’s getting pretty good at it, but with school, chores, and being stuck watching her little brother, Madison is short on time. When she learns that faeries are rumored help human, she does a spell to conjure help around the house. You know that saying, careful what you wish for? Well, Madison unknowingly invites a pair of dangerous yet enticing beings into her life, and one of them will kill whoever it takes to make Madison his. Caught in the crossfire between two dashing but deadly creatures, Madison must figure out which one to trust and how to rid her world of the other before one of them destroys her and everyone she cares about.
KS: Authors can take stories in many various, unique
directions. How did you get your idea(s) for the sequel?
CC: I saw the pieces to Hold
Tight falling in place as I was writing Embrace.
I knew witches weren’t the only supernatural beings in Gloucester,
Massachusetts, and I knew Madison would face a creature who she would find hard
to resist.
KS: Who doesn’t love a series!? Rumor has it that a third book is planned -- What
information can you share at this time? Any fun hints about what we can expect? :)
CC: I am working on a third book. I absolutely love being
back with Madison and her friends, and in book three Caden plays a bigger role.
I can’t say too much without giving away spoilers to Hold Tight, but in book three, magic isn’t going to be the only
thing that tests Madison’s loyalty to her friends and to her boyfriend, Isaac.
KS: As a published author, what have you learned throughout the process that you didn’t know before? Any valuable lessons?
CC: I learned I’m comma challenged. That’s probably not what you meant, but on my final revisions I pay close attention to those little punctuation marks. As far as lessons, dreams do come true if you work hard and never give up.
KS: Do you have a writing mantra?
CC: Not really. I work on the story that’s characters are constantly chattering in my head. Sometimes that means I’m starting in the middle of the book, because that’s the scene I’m the most familiar with, like I did with Embrace, and then other times I knew exactly where my main character is when his or her life changes and I start at the beginning and work my way to the end.
KS: Do you believe in writer’s block? If so, how do you combat it?
KS: What’s in store for your fans and new readers?
Any new books we can look forward to?
CC: Challenging Destiny, my
upper teen thriller/romance about a brother and sister who must outsmart both
Heaven and Hell if they hope to remain human and avoid being pawns in a coming
war will be released later this year. While I don’t have an official release
date from my publisher, The
Wild Rose Press, I think it will be out in
spring.
